DOWNLOAD
1. please tell us a problem that you solved and how George Polya’s guidelines applied. Do not feel that you need to use one of the problems from the textbook. Math is everywhere and being applied everyday, even if we do not realize it is math. Please outline the specific problem, your solution and how the specific problem solving guidelines were applied. Be sure to carefully tell us how you applied each of the guidelines to your problem.

2. Research interest rates and consumer debt using both your personal/professional experience and independent research, respond to the following:
•How has consumer debt changed over the past few generations?
•What role do interest rates play in consumer debt?
•What are the typical interest rates applied to credit cards, mortgages, and other debt?
•Many of today’s interest rates are variable rather than fixed. What difference does this make to pension plans, housing loans, and other personal finances?

3. Ratio and proportion are used in many different ways in everyday life. Describe two real life applications where ratios and proportions are applied. If you have ever applied ratios or proportions to problem solve in your everyday life please feel free to share. If you need examples please research using newspapers, magazines and the internet. Write a brief summary of how ratios and/or proportions are applied.

Please be sure to cite evidence and research to support your conclusions. In addition, please refer to the rubric to understand what criteria will be used to determine your grade for your discussion response.
4. In Module 4 we learn about systems of measurement and how to convert from one unit of measurement to a different unit of measurement. The United States uses a unit system different from a large majority of the world. This discussion activity focuses on the metric system and whether the United States should convert to that system of measurement.

In Discussion Forum 5, post your response to the following discussion questions. Reply to at least two classmates' responses by the date indicated in the course Calendar, and remember to support your opinion with research!

1.Do you see this to be an advantage or disadvantage? Explain your answer.

2.Should the United States convert to the metric system?

3.What obstacles do you see in the event that the United States decides to convert?

5. For your initial post, find an advertisement or commercial that may be statistically misleading. Explain why you feel it is misleading.

6. Write an argument for which apportionment method is best. Include reasons to support your choice including the advantages and disadvantages of the methods you have selected. When responding to your classmates be sure to defend the method you chose as best as part of your debate.
